About this image
296. Flowers of Sal.
Shorea robusta, Roxb., is one of the most valuable of Indian timber trees, 100 to 150 feet high. It also yields a large quantity of resin, which is extensively used as a substitute for pitch in naval yards, and burnt for incense in Hindoo temples. The sweetness of the flowers is sung by Indian poets.
