About this image
27. Chilian lilies and other flowers in black jug and ornamented gourd for mate, 1880
Oil on board by Marianne North, 1880, depicting a yellow Calceolaria behind and a blue Heliotrope, with the beautiful striped Placea ornata, in the centre, and three varieties or species of Leucocoryne below. The scarlet flower is a species of Phycella, and the small yellow-flowered shrub behind is a species of Duvaua. On the table there is a purple-red Oxalis, a Calceolaria, a sprig of the mayten tree (Maytenus boaria) and a white verbena on the left.
